A new discovery that I stumbled upon live. I was graciously gifted concert tickets to James Vincent McMorrow (3 names = guaranteed legitimacy) and found it to be one of the best live vocal performances I have ever witnessed.
It takes a special kind of talent to captivate an audience with just your voice—there was no band. And in his final encore song, James stepped away from the mic and stripped the performance of any tech. There was nothing between his voice and the audience, and it was mesmerizing. I’ve been listening to his discography since.

I’m really into orange wine these days. And apparently so is everyone else. When I went to get a bottle of my recent favorite, I was informed that it was sold out across all of New York City, and apparently destined to stay that way for the coming months. I wonder what it’s like to be that popular. 🙇🏻♀️
Anyway, I asked for an adjacent recommendation and ended up with the Bonny Doon. Let me tell you it was a damn good consolation prize. Light, refreshing, crisp, and the perfect accompaniment for the humid-hot-ass days that are a whole thing here.

I finally got around to checking out the Anthony Doerr hype, and my expectations were not only met but exceeded. I’m about halfway through this moving novel set in the midst of WWII. It follows two primary characters that are crafted with nothing short of compelling depth and deep humanity. The chapters are incredibly short, weaving together completely separate narratives with seamless speed and ease, all while painting one consistent and connected world.
